ML News: First-Year Player Draft
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
In the few hours remaining until the draft begins today, GMs across Major League Baseball will be penned up in their offices, making hurried last minute notes about each of their most coveted prospects. Fearful that things won't go as planned, many of them are still playing through the myriad scenarios that are all but certain to unfold in the high-stakes lottery of drafting. Scouting teams play devil's advocate, argue strategy back and forth and try to help their general manager gain the strategic upper hand, even though they know a lot of what transpires today will come down to being in the right place at the right time. BNN projects that the top picks of the draft will be:

1. Ken Williams, 20 year-old LF out of high-school.
2. Max Carey, 20 year-old CF out of college.
3. Kevin Kiermaier, 20 year-old CF out of college.
4. Benny Kauff, 20 year-old CF out of college.
5. Bryce Harper, 17 year-old RF out of high-school.
6. Casey Stengel, 19 year-old RF out of high-school.
7. Manny Machado, 17 year-old 3B out of high-school.
8. Dalton Pompey, 17 year-old CF out of high-school.
9. Jacob deGrom, 22 year-old RHP out of college.
10. Noah Syndergaard, 17 year-old RHP out of high-school.

These ballclubs will have the first five choices: Boston, Montreal, Atlanta, Cleveland and Philadelphia.
Chicago, Colorado Confirm Deal
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010
According to BNN there were mixed emotions by the players involved in the trade between the Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies. As part of the deal, the Cubs swapped 22-year-old minor league CF Ben Revere to the Rockies getting 20-year-old minor league 3B Bob W Jones and a 3rd round draft pick in return. The players indicated it was good to get a fresh new start in another city, but it was difficult to leave your friends on the old team.

This season Revere is batting .296 with no home runs. His totals include 8 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
Joe Tinker to Miss 4 Months
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010
Chicago fans held their breath as Joe Tinker left yesterday's Yankees-White Sox contest with an injury. After the game, the team's medical staff said that the 29-year-old third baseman had suffered a ruptured achilles tendon while running the bases. It's estimated that he will be out 4 months.

Tinker is swinging at a .272 pace on the year with 6 home runs, 31 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has played in 72 games.
