Watanabe Signs for 3 years
Monday, May 10th, 2004
Detroit fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Shunsuke Watanabe won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 3-year extension at a pay rate of $6,000,000 per annum.

Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, Detroit officials had to keep Watanabe from jumping ship.

This year Watanabe has gone 2-4 with an ERA of 2.26 and has 62 strikeouts in 51.2 innings.
Abe and Booker Suspended for Free-for-All
Monday, May 10th, 2004
Shinnosuke Abe of the Kansas City Royals was not happy with Chris Booker, and his frustration showed when he went after the Chicago player during yesterday's game at Royals Stadium. Both benches cleared as they rushed to the aid of their teammates. Order was soon restored as Abe and Booker were pulled away from each other. They were ejected from the game.

Both players were suspended 3 games by the league office as a result of their tussle.

"It's something that happens in baseball every once in a while," Abe commented later. "We get frustrated with another player and sometimes things go too far. We'll both take our suspensions and then come back ready to play. I got no hard feelings."

So far this season Abe is batting .304 with 13 home runs, 23 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He has 31 hits in 102 at-bats, 23 walks and a .437 OBP. Abe has played in 29 games.

In the 2004 campaign Booker has 5 saves. In 15 relief appearances he has tossed 15.1 innings, struck out 25 and yielded 9 walks with a 2-0 record. The Chicago reliever has recorded a 0.59 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .080 when he is in the game.
