Halladay's Treatment Not Going Well, Suffers Setback
Saturday, August 31st, 2002
All is not well with Roy Halladay in his recovery from elbow tendinitis. The 25-year-old Rockies starting pitcher has already reached some significant steps in his rehabilitation, but his manager said that the team will continue to be cautious with Halladay and take his progression one day at a time, especially after the setback yesterday. "Yesterday he was feeling pretty good but he didn't do a lot on the field," he said. "Today he was supposed to be on the field doing light stuff and then gradually start working right back up. I think he overdid it." A postworkout examination revealed that Halladay had reinjured himself and would now miss at least one week because of it.

On the season Halladay has 5 wins and 3 losses and a 4.03 ERA.
Cubs Lose Rivera for 7 Months
Thursday, August 29th, 2002
The Chicago Cubs were dealt a severe blow when Luis Rivera was hurt throwing a pitch recently in a game against the Montreal Expos. After the game, the team trainer reported Rivera might have to spend a lengthy time on the disabled list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 24-year-old starting pitcher out for the rest of the season with radial nerve compression. They indicated it would take Rivera at least 7 months to heal.

This season Rivera has compiled a 4-11 mark, 4.92 ERA and made 20 starts.
Lee 5-5 Against Montreal
Wednesday, August 28th, 2002
Carlos Lee really sizzled at the plate today. In a game played at Stade Olympique, the Chicago left fielder blistered the Montreal Expos for 5 hits in 5 at-bats to pace his club to a 11-3 victory.

"Lee was too tough to get out today," the Expos skipper said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."

Carlos Lee hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

Thus far this season in 120 games Lee is batting .239 with 18 home runs, 42 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He has 79 hits in 330 at-bats.
